The Heart of Managing Well gives participants the chance to practice proven managerial behaviors that are motivational to knowledge workers and achieve agency results. Participants will assess themselves against thirty-three proven practices, strengthen their listening skills, and clarify the values at the center of their day-to-day management routines.

“Learning and leadership are indispensable to each other.” (John F. Kennedy) Developing mastery, along with autonomy and purpose, motivates knowledge workers. (Pink, 2009) This workshop helps managers expand their repertoire of professional development strategies by considering stretch assignments, communities of practice, mentoring, and networking, along with more traditional approaches to employee development. Includes attention to administering professional development resources equitably across the workforce.

Designing and Leading Change
Designing change that sticks requires careful planning, clear communication, and patience with the stumbles people make as they shift from the old ways of doing business to the new. Relying heavily on the pathbreaking work of William Bridges, participants will discover the three phases of transition, the 6Ps of new beginnings, effective change communication strategies, and a variety of people-centered design strategies keeping the culture, history, and mission of the enterprise in mind.
